Tether has built its Bitcoin (BTC) mining operation with partners and open-sourced its mining framework, CEO Paolo Ardoino said at the Plan ₿ Forum in Lugano on Oct. 23-24, 2026.

Ardoino described Tether’s operation as one of the world’s largest. He also argued that Bitcoin’s 10-minute block interval gives remote villages time to download a block, supporting financial inclusion.

Earlier, Ardoino outlined Tether’s “Independence Stack”, a plan spanning energy, Bitcoin mining, peer-to-peer communications, self-custody wallets and local artificial intelligence. Ardoino said the infrastructure was designed to remain usable even if Tether ceased to exist.
