Cryptocurrency investor and entrepreneur Christopher Harborne has made a landmark £9 million ($12 million) donation to Reform UK, according to a new filing released by the U.K.’s Electoral Commission. The contribution, which is the largest-ever donation to a U.K. political party by a living individual, positions Reform ahead of all other parties in total donations received during the third quarter of 2025.
Harborne, a Thailand-based businessman widely known for his investments in major crypto companies including stablecoin issuer Tether and crypto exchange Bitfinex, has a history of supporting Reform. He previously donated to the party in 2019 when it operated as the Brexit Party under Nigel Farage’s leadership. Over the years, Harborne has also contributed to the Conservative Party, reflecting his longstanding influence in U.K. political funding.
Although various outlets describe the donation as record-breaking, the all-time highest political contribution remains the £10 million bequest left to the Conservative Party in 2022 by the late Lord John Sainsbury. Still, Harborne’s donation marks an unprecedented moment for living donors and underscores the growing intersection between the crypto sector and British politics.
Nigel Farage, whose Reform UK party has led national polls for much of the year, has openly targeted pro-crypto voters. He has accepted cryptocurrency donations and pledged to establish a national bitcoin reserve should his party enter government. Despite Harborne’s deep involvement in digital assets, his latest contribution was made in cash rather than crypto.
The substantial donation highlights the increasing political engagement of cryptocurrency investors and the rising influence of digital asset advocates in shaping the U.K.’s economic and regulatory future. As crypto adoption continues expanding, major political contributions like Harborne’s may signal a broader shift in how innovation-focused donors seek to influence national policy.
