Kraken Expands Into U.S. Stocks as Crypto and Traditional Finance Converge

Kraken Expands Into U.S. Stocks as Crypto and Traditional Finance Converge.

Crypto exchanges are accelerating their push into traditional finance, with Kraken becoming the latest platform to expand its stock trading services as the boundaries between crypto and conventional markets continue to fade.

Kraken is launching direct trading in more than 7,000 U.S.-listed stocks for customers across the European Economic Area (EEA). The expansion complements its existing tokenized U.S. equities offering in Europe, making Kraken the only crypto-native exchange to provide both traditional stocks and tokenized versions of selected shares, according to the company.

The move places Kraken in closer competition with established investment platforms such as Interactive Brokers and eToro, as well as crypto companies increasingly targeting the equities market.

Other major platforms are pursuing similar strategies. Crypto.com and Robinhood offer tokenized stocks in Europe, while Bitpanda provides access to traditional U.S. equities. Coinbase has received U.K. regulatory authorization to offer traditional investments alongside cryptocurrencies and already provides U.S. customers with stock and exchange-traded fund (ETF) trading.

Kraken executives say giving customers access to traditional and blockchain-based versions of assets on a single platform removes barriers between the two financial systems. Users can select their preferred form of exposure without transferring capital between different services.

The trend comes as traditional stock exchanges explore longer trading hours and blockchain-based settlement, while crypto exchanges expand beyond digital assets. Growing investor interest in sectors such as artificial intelligence and high-profile private companies has also increased demand for broader investment options.

OKX Europe CEO Erald Ghoos said financial platforms increasingly need to provide customers with choices spanning crypto, tokenized stocks and traditional equities. At the same time, banks are moving deeper into cryptocurrency services.

Coinbase U.K. CEO Keith Grose similarly pointed to changing consumer behavior, with investors increasingly preferring fewer platforms for managing their financial activities.

The convergence suggests the future of investing could revolve around financial “super apps” where cryptocurrencies, stocks, ETFs and tokenized assets coexist, giving users access to multiple markets through a single account.
