Bitcoin and XRP enter another pivotal week after extending their recent declines, with US crypto regulation, Federal Reserve policy and Japanese economic data offering potential catalysts for both cryptocurrencies.
Bitcoin trades near $63,000 after falling 3.2% over the past seven days, while XRP dropped 3.8% and slipped below $1. Both remain trapped in ranges, but several events could inject fresh volatility.
President Donald Trump is expected to meet crypto industry leaders at the White House on Wednesday. SEC Chair Paul Atkins, CFTC Chair Michael Selig and executives from Coinbase, Ripple, Kalshi and Polymarket are expected to participate. The Digital Asset Market Clarity Act will likely feature prominently. Although the House passed the crypto market structure bill in July 2025, the Senate has yet to vote.
XRP could be particularly sensitive to regulatory developments. The token reached its $3.65 record high shortly after the House approved the CLARITY Act but has since fallen roughly 73%.
Federal Reserve minutes from the July meeting also arrive Wednesday. The Fed held interest rates at 3.5%-3.75% in a 9-3 decision, with three officials favoring a quarter-point hike. Futures markets currently assign roughly 32% odds of a September rate increase. More hawkish Fed signals could pressure Bitcoin, XRP and other risk assets.
On Thursday, the CFTC's Innovation Advisory Committee holds its inaugural meeting. Its 35 members include executives from Ripple, Coinbase, Kraken, Gemini, CME Group and Nasdaq. Discussions surrounding digital commodities could prove especially important for XRP's regulatory classification.
Japan adds another macroeconomic risk. Second-quarter GDP arrives Monday, followed by July inflation on Friday. Markets are pricing roughly an 80% chance of another Bank of Japan rate hike after June's increase to 1%.
Higher Japanese rates could strengthen the yen and pressure carry trades that have historically affected Bitcoin. However, recent market behavior suggests that relationship may be weakening.
With Bitcoin roughly 50% below its October record of $126,080 and XRP struggling around $1, this week's regulatory and macroeconomic events could finally determine whether either cryptocurrency breaks its prolonged trading range.
