Solana ETFs See Steady July Inflows as ‘Alpenglow’ Upgrade Draws Focus

Solana ETFs recorded consistent July inflows while anticipation builds for the network’s Alpenglow upgrade, signaling rising institutional interest despite subdued SOL price action.

Solana (SOL) hovered near $73 on Sunday ET, as U.S.-listed spot Solana ETFs notched net inflows on every trading day in July—an unusual streak that stood out against Bitcoin (BTC) funds, which saw net outflows over the same period. The combination of steady ETF demand and growing anticipation for the Solana Foundation’s upcoming 'Alpenglow' upgrade is reframing the narrative around SOL after a weak month for price performance.

Market data cited in the report shows spot Solana ETFs attracting fresh capital throughout July, signaling sustained 'institutional demand' even as broader crypto flows turned more selective. Aggregate assets under management (AUM) across these products were estimated at roughly $1 billion, highlighting that Solana’s ETF footprint, while still modest compared with Bitcoin and Ethereum (ETH), is becoming increasingly meaningful in daily flow terms.

Adding to the traditional finance signal, Morgan Stanley received approval from NYSE Arca for a spot Solana fund, according to the report. While product timelines and distribution details were not disclosed, the approval is being read by market participants as further evidence that regulated Solana exposure is widening beyond crypto-native issuers—potentially expanding the buyer base during periods when retail activity softens.

Despite the favorable flow backdrop, SOL’s price action has remained subdued. As of around 12:00 a.m. ET on Aug. 3, Solana traded near $73, down about 0.1% over 24 hours. The token was lower roughly 4.39% over the past week and about 11.1% over 30 days, though it was still up around 3.01% on a 60-day view—suggesting a tentative medium-term stabilization rather than a clear uptrend.

Much of the forward-looking optimism centers on 'Alpenglow', a major protocol upgrade that aims to cut transaction finality to about 150 milliseconds. Developers have already begun preparing the network for the change: Solana mainnet has been accepting BLS (Boneh–Lynn–Shacham) keys since July 21, with a target for full release toward the end of August, the report said.

If executed as planned, the finality improvement could strengthen Solana’s positioning for latency-sensitive use cases such as decentralized finance (DeFi) trading and high-frequency onchain applications. Faster confirmation times are often viewed as a structural advantage in competition with other smart-contract networks, especially where user experience and execution certainty affect liquidity and trading behavior.

Network usage metrics are also trending positively. The report said Solana’s monthly transaction count hit an all-time high in July 2026, attributed to increased ecosystem activity and a rise in new token launches. Growth in DeFi, NFTs, and gaming projects has helped support higher throughput utilization, reinforcing the argument that recent demand is tied to real onchain activity rather than purely speculative rotation.

From a technical perspective, analysts cited in the report described Solana as moving sideways, with a key resistance band around $75 to $79 and support near $71 to $72. As of Aug. 3, Solana’s market capitalization was estimated at about $42.4 billion, while 24-hour trading volume stood near $977 million—down roughly 18.51% from the prior day, pointing to cooling short-term turnover.

SOL remains far below its January peak near $294–$295, trading roughly 74% off the highs, while holding the No. 7 position by market value, according to the report. Circulating supply was cited at approximately 581.19 million SOL, with a fully diluted valuation around $46 billion.

Market watchers are split on the near-term path. A clean break above the $75 level could restore short-term momentum, while a loss of the $71 support zone would likely invite additional selling pressure. With ETF inflows continuing to signal steady appetite and the 'Alpenglow' milestone approaching, traders are increasingly focused on whether this combination can translate into sustained price recovery—and whether regulatory clarity continues to improve alongside expanding spot ETF approvals.
