CFTC Probes Whether Polymarket Breached 2022 U.S. User Ban
The review spans U.S. access controls, advertising, and customer admission and protections on the company’s U.S. platform.

The Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) is investigating whether Polymarket violated its 2022 agreement barring U.S. users, putting the prediction-market operator’s access controls, advertising and customer protections under regulatory scrutiny.
The inquiry covers Polymarket’s efforts to restrict U.S. access and its advertising activity. It also examines customer admission and protections on Polymarket’s U.S. platform, extending the review to how the company manages access and safeguards for American customers.
Polymarket reached a $1.4 million settlement with the CFTC in 2022 over offering unregistered event contracts. The agreement barred U.S. users from the platform. The current investigation asks whether the company followed that restriction while examining the controls it uses and protections available to customers.
The probe links the restriction to Polymarket’s current access policies and customer measures. Its scope includes advertising activity alongside questions about how U.S. customers are admitted and protected, and how access controls align with the 2022 agreement.
