XRP Now Available for Trading on Mercoin, Expanding Access to 20 Million Users

XRP is now available for trading on Mercoin, the cryptocurrency platform operated by Mercari, Japan’s leading resale marketplace, according to CoinPost. This new listing enables over 20 million monthly active users to easily trade XRP using their existing Mercari balances, loyalty points, or direct bank transfers, with a low entry point starting from just 1 JPY.

Emi Yoshikawa, a key executive at Ripple, highlighted that this integration significantly expands XRP’s accessibility in Japan, a market where the cryptocurrency already enjoys strong support. XRP’s popularity in the country is closely tied to its longstanding partnership with SBI Holdings. SBI’s crypto-focused subsidiaries, including SBI VC Trade and SBI Remit, have actively promoted XRP for cross-border payments and on-demand liquidity services.

Mercoin initially introduced Bitcoin trading in March 2023, followed by Ethereum in May 2024, and has rapidly gained traction among new crypto users. In less than two years, the platform attracted over three million users, many of whom were first-time cryptocurrency traders. The addition of XRP offers a seamless trading experience for Mercari’s vast user base, blending digital asset investment into their everyday shopping and selling activities.

This move positions XRP prominently within one of Japan’s most popular consumer ecosystems, reinforcing its presence in a key market. By simplifying access and lowering the barrier to entry, Mercoin’s support for XRP is expected to drive further adoption among retail users and strengthen its role in Japan’s growing digital asset economy.
